Varadero Dive Sites and Map Location

The Varadero diving area passes from Jardines Del Rey to the capital city of Matanzas and from Matanzas bay as far as to the most outer north east of the archipelago.

In Varadero divers will find warm, clean water, great biodiversity, good conservation of it’s ecosystems, coral gardens, caves, meadows of gorgonians and sponges, underwater escarpments, narrow channels, tunnels, fish of many sizes and colors, valuable remains of shipwrecked vessels and many natural beaches.

Once pool training is concluded, near the hotels or diving centers, the stair like structure of platform allows the diver to go deeper into the sea at sites such as Las Mandarinas, only 10 meters ( 33 feet ) deep and you can see patch of coral with many sessile species including well development gorgonians and different types of coral where you can also find a wide variety of coral fish, cubera snappers, groupers and a big school of grunts which are easily fed by divers.

Another diving site is a coastal coral reef known as Playa Coral from 1 to 20 meters (3 to 66 feet ) deep, that can be reached by swimming from the beach under its protection, where more than 30 species of corals live, some of them with remarkable development topping the surface, joined together forming channels, passages or caves as a shelter of a very particular and interesting fauna.

For advance divers, towards the East of the Peninsula, where the archipelago Jardines del Rey starts, there are some keys and islets with beautiful sea bottoms, we suggest you the Caribe Wreck, 10 meters ( 33 feet ) deep, and old German merchant shipwreck, sunk in 1943 during the second World War, and scattered in a wide area where there are lots of angelfish, barracudas, groupers, lobsters and 2 meters ( 6.5 feet ) long green moray that can be fed by divers. At Bonací you can also find beautiful coral reef 30 meters ( 98 feet ) deep, with plenty of coral, gorgonians and colorful sponges.

This scuba dive can be done as a shore dive and consists of an amazing wall which begins at a depth at a shallow depth of around 10 meters and then descends down at a drop off to depths in excess of 300 meters.An interesting and enjoyable dive.
